What is an online or remote background check?

What do I need to bring to my appointment?
You must bring your Picture ID, the ORC code and payment for services.  
What is an ORC Code?
The Ohio Revised Code (ORC) is the systemized law of the state of Ohio. It’s a collection of statutes and laws that govern various aspects of life, including criminal, civil, corporate, and administrative law. The Legislative Service Commission staff updates the Revised Code on an ongoing basis. It is usually a three or four digit number with a decimal and a few numbers after the decimal. This must be presented at the time of your appointment along with the address as to where your background check needs to be sent to. Both pieces of information is needed to process your background check. Your employer or school should provide you with this information.
Do you provide ink fingerprint cards?
Yes, we have ink fingerprinting cards that can be purchased. We provide both the FD-258 card and the BCI card

My employer told me that I did not need an ORC code for a background check.

  • FBI background checks must always have an ORC code to be processed via webcheck. There are no exceptions to this rule.

  • BCI background checks does not always need to have an ORC code if it is for pre-employment screening only and the employer is not required by law to use a specific ORC code. The webcheck agency can choose OTHER and write in PRE-EMPLOYMENT SCREENING for the REASON.
    • Are you an approved webcheck agency?
    Yes, THE GO TO NOTARY is an approved Ohio Attorney General webcheck agency.
    How long is my background check good for?
    A background check is good for thirty days after 30 days, you must come in to be fingerprinted again. In some cases a background check can be reordered if a report was done within the last year.

    What to Expect During Your Fingerprinting Appointment

    Whether you're getting fingerprinted for employment, licensing, background checks, or other official purposes, The Go To Notary makes the process fast, convenient, and professional. Here’s what to expect and what to bring to your appointment.

    The Fingerprinting Process

    At The Go To Notary, we offer both LiveScan electronic fingerprinting and traditional ink fingerprinting. The process takes about 10–15 minutes, and we ensure it’s accurate, efficient, and handled with care

    Check-in and ID verification

    When you arrive, we’ll verify your identity with a valid government-issued photo ID such as a driver’s license, state ID, military ID, or passport. The ID must be current and not expired.

    Fingerprint capture

    For LiveScan, we scan your fingerprints digitally and submit them electronically to the appropriate agency.

    For ink fingerprinting, we roll each finger in ink and record the prints on an official fingerprint card (typically FD-258 or as specified by the requesting agency).

    Review and submission

    We’ll review the fingerprints for clarity. LiveScan submissions are sent directly to the state or FBI based on your application. Ink cards are handed back to you for mailing unless otherwise arranged.

    What to Bring to Your Appointment

    To ensure your fingerprinting session goes smoothly, please bring the following:

    For LiveScan submissions:
